The Pipraich Sugar Mill, located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, has undergone a significant
transformation. Originally established in 1932, the mill experienced a period of closure before
being revitalized.
Current sugar type
Currently, the mill produces sulphur-free sugar. It is expanding its operations to include ethanol
production.
The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated funds for the establishment of a distillery at
the mill, with a production capacity of 60 kilolitres per day.
Revival's key figure
The revival and expansion of the mill are significant for the local sugarcane farmers because it
ensures faster payments for their crops.
Additionally, the expansion into ethanol production contributes to the region's industrial
growth and supports India's renewable energy goals.
